Last night we broke three boxes of Panini Chronicles. This was the first time we've done a break of just Chronicles, which has been a really fun product this year, and a lot of people's favorite. Panini this year has cut down on the base cards, so the set features a wide variety of inserts with opportunities for some really nice pulls.
As a hit heavy product, these three boxes didn't disappoint! There were many cards from this break that went straight into penny sleeves. A sizable amount of the big rookies of 2018(Ohtani, Acuna, Soto, Torres) all had multiple cards pulled, with the best of those being a Gleyber Torres Spectra auto out of 99. Other autos included a Rafael Devers dual relic/auto of Spectra, a Clint Frazier quad relic/auto out of Cornerstones out of 99, a Lewis Brinson auto out of Spectra out of 199, and base autos of Chris Flexen(Illusions), Reyes Moronta(Prestige), Jose Osuna(Select), Freddy Peralta(Chronicles), and Yairo Munoz(Crusade).
Non auto hits were triple relics of Anthony Banda and Willie Calhoun out of Spectra, and a Victor Caratini triple relic Spectra orbit prism out of 99.
Chronicles is packed with numbered cards. Highlights included an Aaron Judge blue Phoenix out of 50 and an Acuna Jr. Prizm atomic refractor out of 149. Others with numbered cards pulled included Gary Sanchez(Prizm /199), Giancarlo Stanton(blue Phoenix /299), and Walker Buehler(Chronicles foil /299). A sizable number of Austin Hays cards were pulled. The Hays' Phoenix orange out of 199 was a nice looking card matching the Orioles' orange.
Check out the Highlights!
Chronicles is a really solid product this year. The team distribution on this was just a bit lopsided, but that mirrors the product itself. Having combo spots for the teams with fewer hits definitely helps. The Yankees probably made out the best with two really nice autos. Overall, Chronicles is a really fun break this year and is packed with notable rookies and plenty of hits.
