2020 AL Cy Young Breakdown

Even though this has been a short season, these three pitchers are more than deserving of this years Cy Young award:

Here are their stats through 9/24/2020:

Gerrit Cole (SP New York Yankees)

After being traded to the Houston Astros, Gerrit Cole showed us that with actual run support, he could be a top five pitcher. What puts him into consideration for this years Cy Young Award are the two complete games and one complete game shutout (although both complete games were 7IP). Cole's velos always are in the top percentiles of the league throwing, on average, a 97mph fastball with his signature 90mph slider.

Shane Bieber (SP Cleveland Indians)

As you may remember, I had Bieber as a MVP candidate this year. He's broken numerous strikeout records, including the most strikeouts through 50 IP (84K's) and has struck out 41% of batters faced. He's also reading in K/9, H/9, and ERA.

Kenta Maeda (SP Minnesota Twins)

After trading top prospect Brusdar Graterol away, the Twinkies were hoping to get a #1 starter back and that's what they received. Maeda is the opposite of Cole, relying off his deception and movement. True to the deception, he primarily throws a slider and changeup, both averaging 84mph. He's got a career low and league leading WHIP for SP .
