Last week I shared a story about one of my favorite hits ever. Today I want to share a story of the best dime box find I've ever found.
Years ago, before The Card Swap, I was attending a show in Buffalo doing my normal digging. Back then, I was buying differently, so I'd usually try and rummage through dime boxes to find some gold. This would be day that it really paid off.
If I had to guess, this was probably around 2016/17 and prior to finding the dime boxes, I was looking through a $2 box and found 4 Bryce Harper Topps Chrome Rookies. At that time, those were 10-$15 easily. Deals like that, I'm gonna keep looking. On to the dime boxes...
I don't recall what else I pulled from the dime box but I do know I had quite a stack going. Then I saw this and couldn't believe what I was looking at.
This was just sitting there. In the dime box. For a dime. 10 cents...
To clear my conscience, I asked the dealer if he knew it was in there. He told me that he didn't know what it was and he didn't care if he sold it for a dime. Remember, a dime is 10 cents. The dealer next to us heard us talking about the card and asked what he sold for. He said a dime. The dude flipped out! Turns out, he was one the sold the monster boxes to the guy, and also didn't know it was in there. I gave him every opportunity to not sell it for a dime but he said he was ok with it. If I remember correctly, my total at his table was $12.
I've considered selling it before, and think it even made the site at one point. But turns out, it's gonna be one of the ones I save just for the story.

As mentioned, I love finding Nolan Ryan cards as a Met. For no other reason I think, than there isn't that many of them. Plus his rookie was pictured with something else. That's why I always liked the 1969 Topps Better.
The Ryan Express has a lot of other SP's to browse. Who doesn't love the photos of him throwing the pigskin!
If you haven't checked out the "Facing Nolan" documentary on Netflix, I recommend it!

Topps Gilded is getting lots of talk right now, for good reason. The cards are beautiful! It's the perfect set to just go buy the singles that you want from the set. Especially with the prices continuing to increase for Gilded.
