Break Recap - Archives 2-Box Break - 10/24/18

Topps finally released Hobby Boxes of Archives! So we broke a couple boxes to test the waters before we looked at buying more. Each box features 2 autos. This product has been available in retail for a couple months now, but it was cool to see some of the differences and have the promised autos. We ended up with some really cool autos, one of which was a Rookie History Tim Raines auto which is a case hit! We also snagged a Sandlots auto of actor Victor DiMattia who played Timmy Timmons.

Archives contains three different vintage sets that feature rookies, stars, and legends on the throwback set style. This year Archives was made up of 100 card sets using the years 1959, 1977, and 1981 Topps sets layouts.

The hobby specific cards in this break were generally pretty solid, examples being the blue base parallels /175, the autos, and the Sandlots cards. There was an unfortunate number of duplicate packs that we opened in both boxes, major bummer. It could also be considered a downer that our big hit is an Expos card, which despite being very sleek, may not be what a Nats fan necessarily wants to receive! Good to see some variety in our hits in this break with all four autos going to different teams/people. I am not sure if there will be more Archives headlining another break. The whole reason I only bought 2 boxes was I had concerns that the box overall would not hold up enough for the value. Having almost identical packs in both boxes was the exact thing I was worried about, because that's how the retail packs were as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see Archives in a mixer (especially when prices comes down a bit).

Thanks everyone for ripping Archives with us!
