2018 Bowman Platinum - The Card Swap Experience

We recently did our third 2018 Bowman Platinum break. There were already two "Grade The Break" write-ups about the other two (First one - Second one). Here is the outline of the 3 breaks as a whole from our point of view. Depending on availability, I will always be open to ripping more Bowman Platinum. I understand some people didn't like the design of the card this year, especially the base cards. I liked it and thought it was cool. Had a 90's feel to it, and I think that could also be what turns people off to the design. *** The third break was good but definitely not our best when it came to ripping Platinum, A few key cards made the break entertaining but overall it didn't hold up to the

2018 Topps Finest - The Card Swap Experience

On Wednesday, we did our third 2018 Topps Finest break. There were already two "Grade The Break" write-ups about the other two (First one - Second one), and aside from a future mixer, I'd say we are done with Topps Finest. This was one of my favorite sets to open this year. The second Finest break got an A grade and would have been hard to top. The first break was only one master box. The other two breaks were two master boxes. *** The third break was very solid, especially for the Cardinals and Phillies. We pulled 2 different Harrison Bader and a Sandy Alcantara auto (also pulled a Bader and Alcantara in previous breaks). Overall the second break would definitely been in the B range. Here a

Grade the Break - 2018 Donruss Optic - 3 Boxes + Bonus

Donruss is back with their Optic product. If you are not familiar, this is the "chrome" version of the Donruss base set. A lot of the cards will look familar as it mimics the base set in a lot of ways. They make little changes and also offer a different run of variations (Variation Guide). Donruss put out a Hot Box that contains either 5 Autos or 20 numbered cards, and for the second break in a row, our first box we cracked was a Hot Box. The major downside to this product is the lack of licensing. If this set had licensing, it might be one of the most popular. PROS * High Quality Card * Fun, Easy-to-Spot, and Easy-to-Get Variations * Lots of colored parallels with numbering * Legends, Stars

Grade the Break - 2018 Allen & Ginter - 3 Hobby Boxes

Probably one of the most polarizing sets that Topps produces. Collectors either love Allen & Ginter, or they simply do not. This set is known for the non-sport cards and inserts that are included in these packs. It's a turn off to some collectors, some like them, and most tolerate them. My biggest problem with the A&G set in the past is the quality of the relics. Though they go well with the set, the base relics do not carry much value. The framed mini relics, are a different story. This set doesn't feature any variations and numbered cards are rare. Like Gypsy Queen, A&G also feature mini versions of the base card. These mini's also come with different border parallels. PROS * Unique, vinta

Grade the Break - 2018 Bowman Platinum #2

Here are the results from the second Bowman Platinum Break. This broke on Sunday night and it just reinforced how much fun this product can be to open up. The PROS and CONS didn't change since the first break. PROS * Different card design than other sets (may be a con for some collectors) * Top Rookies - Ohtani, Albies, Mejia, Flaherty, Verdugo, Robles, Hoskins, and Rosario * Top Prospects - Acuna, Guerrero, Eloy Jimenez, McKay, and Torres * Nice Inserts: Prismatic Prodigies, Rookie Revelations, and Platinum Presence * 2 Autos Promised per box * Lots of colored and numbered parallels * Variations are Super Short Prints and are tough to get (hold value) - VARIATION GUIDE HAS BEEN UPDATED * Al

Grade the Break - 2018 Bowman Platinum #1

Bowman Platinum hit Wal-Mart shelves last week and we broke our first two boxes on Saturday night. Bowman Platinum is always a fun set to open, especially if you like prospects and rookies. This Bowman has a different look to it, and personally I like it. The inserts are sharp in this set! Rookie Revelations is one of the nicer insert sets of the year so far. PROS * Different card design than other sets (may be a con for some collectors) * Top Rookies - Ohtani, Albies, Mejia, Flaherty, Verdugo, Robles, Hoskins, and Rosario * Top Prospects - Acuna, Guerrero, Eloy Jimenez, McKay, and Torres * Nice Inserts: Prismatic Prodigies, Rookie Revelations, and Platinum Presence * 2 Autos Promised per bo

Stadium Club 2018 - The Card Swap Experience

On Wednesday, we did our third 2018 Stadium Club break. There were already two "Grade The Break" write-ups about the other two (First one - Second one), and aside from a future mixer, I'd say we are done with Stadium Club. A breaker had a good idea about doing the write up more about the set in general rather than the last break. The last break was slightly better than the others but still underwhelming. Between the three breaks, retail, and personal ripping, here is the final tally of what we opened: 10 Hobby Boxes, 2 Blaster Boxes, 15 Retail Rack/Fat Packs. Stadium Club was a favorite set as a kid, and I was excited when they brought it back in 2014. Aside from 2014, the sets since then al

Grade the Break - 2018 Topps Inception #2

This was the second break that we did of Inception. This had a slightly different format where we did it draft style. Every person in the break showed up live and in the chat room were able to draft cards after the break. It was really fun and I will be planning more of these very soon! The PROS and CONS didnt change much since the first break other than I feel ok adding that there is a lot of "fluff" in this set. The quality of players seems to be very low. This is based on our experience and hearing what others are saying while opening the product PROS * Beautiful Card Design - it's what Inception is known for * Low Numbered Relic/Patch Cards * Sharp Parallels * Affordable chance at nice c

Grade the Break - 2018 Topps Inception

I have opened a lot of cards in my day, but this was a first for me. This would be the first Inception products I would open. I was excited to look at a new product, especially one that so many people are enjoying right now. I have never been a fan of buying the higher end products that give less than 10 cards per box. Never fully understood the 1 card box, but hey, it works for them. Doing these products in a breaking format works really well. For this break, there would be 14 cards, so 14 slots were sold so everyone was guaranteed a card. A slot was $12 and 2/20. We did a random break format for this one. After all of the cards were opened, I put them into random.org and then did the same

Grade the Break - 2018 Topps Finest + BONUS

After opening the first Master Box we had a few weeks ago, it left us wanting more. And due to the Ohtani injury, these prices dipped a bit and made it possible for us to rip two boxes this time and a good price. As an added bonus, I bought a "box" of Archives Snapshots. That is one pack of 12 cards and 1 guaranteed auto. This was the first break that I sold the Orioles off. I don't think I'll do that again for awhile! haha PROS * Beautiful card design * Top Rookies - Ohtani, Devers, Andujar, Mejia, Hays, Verdugo, and more. Frazier and Albies are SP * Nice Inserts: Sitting Red, Cornerstones, Finest Careers, and Finest Firsts * 2 Autos Promised - autos on these cards almost always look sharp

Grade the Break - 2018 Stadium Club #2

Stadium Club - Round 2: My experience with Stadium Club has been very up and down. In our second 3-box break of SC, I had some higher expectations. The first break was fun, but the quality of cards we were getting wasn't great. I had a some good luck with some retail SC, so I was hoping that these boxes would give some good results, and/or my luck has changed...for everybody's sake! After opening more SC since it's release, the PROS and CONS haven't changed much but I did make some additions. PROS * Photography and types of images used are unlike any other card out there * Top Rookies - Ohtani, Albies, Mejia, Hays, Verdugo, Robles, Hoskins, and Rosario * Nice Inserts: Beam Team, Never Compro
